Pocklington Branch
Sitting at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds and surrounded by flat arable land, the market town of Pocklington can trace its roots to the bronze age and a mention in the Domesday book. For a time Yorkshire’s second largest settlement after York, the town is now relatively a more modest size and derives much of its charm from this.
The skyline is dominated by the 15th century church tower and the town is also home to Pocklington School which dates from 1514 where the anti slavery campaigner William Wilberforce was educated as well as the playwright Tom Stoppard.
Burnby Hall Gardens is renowned for its water Lillies and the Pocklington rugby club hosts a Good Friday 7’s tournament that attracts teams from across the country. The town is large enough to provide a good range of local amenities and small enough to facilitate a good quality of life for its residents.
Its position lying to the east of York and on the western side of East Yorkshire, Pocklington is a popular destination for home hunters. The town boasts a large number of local villages with great variety in size and character. Some are nestled in the Wolds such as picturesque Water others on the flat such as Seaton Ross; some like Wilberfoss are the same size as medieval towns and others are mere hamlets such as Givendale. Nearby Market Weighton is a town in its own right and has a close relationship with Pocklington.
The town and area are popular with commuters to nearby York and at a further distance Leeds, as well as other parts of East Yorkshire. The M62 can be reached by heading south and also links to Leeds as well as the wider motorway network.
Pocklington and its neighbouring settlements are sure to have something of interest for the overwhelming majority of buyers and we look forward to helping you explore the area.
